Scorpions, Seahorses, and Silk Worms

I went to the night market and I saw lots of scorpions, seahorses, silkworms, grasshoppers, centipedes, starfish, and sea urchins for sale...to EAT!!! They were on sticks and roasted...

I just couldn't do it...

My tour guide took me to a silk factory so I could buy my mom a gift for her 50th birthday (in November). They showed me how silk is produced...did you know that silk worm droppings are used as tea!!! Ewww!! People drink it!!! Nasty.

I also got to stretch out some silk in making the stuffing for the quilts. That was fun. I did't screw it up much! :)

I'm leaving for Xi'An tomorrow afternoon. I've had my fill of Beijing Olympics shopping. I got one of my students a pin. The mascots are bears and one is named Nini...just like my student. I thought I'd get her something small.

As for the rest of my students, I can't think of what I should bring back to share...I'm looking at the candies and such, but they're the same as in Taiwan...

Ying! I love your hometown. It's was surprisingly clean in most parts. It wasn't at all what I expected. They are definately gearing up for the Olympics. I wonder if all the "upgrading" will last once the Olympics are over...I wonder if it's all a facade...

YO, B.C., it takes A LOT!!! My guide took me to a silk factory and I learned about the life cycle of the worms and even how to separate the silk cacoon from the dead worm. It was really gross. I can't believe I touched a dead, dried worm!! eeewww...I'm such a girl sometimes...
